Aircraft Repair Coordination Web App
Bridging the gap between airlines and out-of-network maintenance services
Background:
Company: nodeSWAT
Services: Research, Design & Build
Role: Product Research, Product Design, Product Management
Shifting from nonstandard resolutions to automated solutions
For airlines, grounded aircraft situations (AOG) spell disaster. AOG’s can result in huge revenue loss, passenger frustration, and logistical nightmares. And when airlines operate in locations where they don’t have in-house maintenance services, it can make a very challenging scenario even more complicated.
Helping our airline and maintenance partners connect
MROScanner was designed with the goal in mind to create an intuitive network between airlines with third-party maintenance providers who are outside standard networks, to enable streamline operations and efficient decision-making

Beta Launch
Research:
To gain an understanding of the project's goals, I began the information-gathering process by evaluating competitors, analyzing processes, gathering insights and needs from industry experts and users to grasp industry standards and operational dynamics.
Competitive Analysis:
Current solutions for managing AOG’s were evaluated, discovering many limitations with current options including that none had specific tools for third-party AOG resolution.
Interviews:
Discussions with both airlines and maintenance providers revealed challenges and goals from unique perspectives. With airlines acutely focused on reducing manual effort and AOG downtime, and maintenance providers focused on standardizing processes and reducing labor costs.
Process Analysis:
To validate insights from interviews and improve understanding of operational challenges, a thorough evaluation of business processes was completed, uncovering improvement opportunities such as communication channel optimizations, standardization of documentation protocols, and stakeholder updates.
Data Synthesis:
During data synthesis, captivating insights emerged, unveiling themes, pain points, and improvement opportunities for both airlines and maintenance providers in Aircraft on Ground situations.
Affinity Mapping:
Insights from affinity mapping, revealed themes including the need for a verified network of contacts, location-based service, and access to real-time information to improve the AOG experience.
User Personas:
Two distinct personas were developed to fully capture both the airline and the maintenance service providers’ propensities and motivations during an AOG event.
User Journeys:
Analyzing the steps and interactions users undertake during an AOG event, we validated interview insights and pinpointed numerous areas for optimization in the AOG experience like search automation, document digitization, and stakeholder awareness.
Information Architecture & UI Design:
To craft a user-friendly and efficient digital experience, we organized information architecture and UI in a way that aligns with our users' mental models and their expectations, laying the foundation for effective interaction design.
